Will Sprint and T-Mobile merge this time?

According to the news T-Mobile and Sprint which currently hold #3 and #4 spots in the wireless industry are in talks of merger again. Sprint and T-Mobile tried merging under Obama administration three years ago but it was not successful due to regulations at the time.

Softbank CEO, Masayoshi Son who has a majority stake in Sprint has been trying to get a deal for Sprint however he has not been successful. Just last week there were reports of Sprint and Charter communications merger however it was dismissed after Charter’s announcement to decline to merge.

If the merger is successful it will put them in #2 spot in wireless industry after AT&T. Sprint currently has 53.7 million and T-Mobile with 69.6 million subscribers and the merger could result in less competitive offers for the customers.
