Verizon Go Unlimited plans will include coverage in Mexico and Canada

Starting next week, users with either of Verizon’s two unlimited plans can call and text to Mexico and Canada, as well as use data when visiting. Starting on January 25, Go Unlimited customers will get unlimited talk, text, and data in Mexico and Canada – something that was previously limited to Unlimited Beyond subscribers. Just like Unlimited Beyond, coverage in Mexico and Canada for Go Unlimited customers limits 4G LTE data speeds to 500 MB each day. Speeds are reduced to 2G following this but are then reset at midnight EST. Additionally, Go Unlimited plans will now come with unlimited […]

T-Mobile is the way to go if you want the fastest 4G LTE in the US

The big wireless carriers have another data point to use in their battle for bragging rights over which one has the best mobile network. And this time, T-Mobile came out on top. It had the fastest network overall in the fourth quarter, according to OpenSignal, which measures mobile data speeds via an app test used by tens of thousands of ordinary consumers. Nationally, T-Mobile customers who used the test had an average download speed of 19.4 megabits per second on 4G connections, followed by Verizon at 17.8 Mbps, AT&T at 13.3 Mbps and Sprint at 12 Mbps. Verizon and AT&T’s […]

T-Mobile Takes 5/6 OpenSignal’s Network Awards For Jan. 2018

T-Mobile took five out of six awards given as part of OpenSignal‘s State of Mobile Networks report covering the wireless performance of the four national carriers in the United States in January. The Bellevue, Washington-based telecom giant was found to be offering the best 3G, 4G, and overall download speeds, lowest 3G latency, and the widest 4G availability. The final award was given to AT&T who was determined to be delivering the lowest 4G latency this month. While the overall state of wireless speeds in the U.S. still isn’t impressive in the context of the rest of the world, according […]

After almost a year of hints, Sprint’s ‘Direct Connect Plus’ PTT service from Kodiak launches

Sprint said it is now selling its new Sprint Direct Connect Plus (SDC Plus), “our next-generation push-to-talk solution, designed to give business teams the power of real-time communication with the push of a button for nationwide, one-to-one group or broadcast communications.” The new offering runs on the Kodiak PTT (push-to-talk) platform and supports Wi-Fi communications, presence information and tablet usage. The launch, announced late last week, comes roughly eight months after Sprint hinted at the forthcoming service on its website. In May of last year, Sprint boasted that its new Sprint Direct Connect Plus “is an enhanced push-to-talk solution that […]

Proposed bill would speed Sprint’s network buildout

A proposed House Bill could make it easier for Sprint Corp. to pump the gas on building out its wireless network. The SPEED Act (Streamlining Permitting to Enable Efficient Deployment of Broadband Infrastructure) would amend a portion of the Communications Act of 1934 to lighten regulations around permitting for communications facilities. More specifically, it would exempt certain types of telecom infrastructure from environmental review requirements by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). The exemption would apply to communications facilities in the public right-of-way that are less than 50 feet tall, or small cells as defined by the FCC, according to the […]

AT&T offers BOGO deal on the Apple iPhone 8 for a limited time only

The most surprising deal of the season is AT&T’s Buy One Get One deal on the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus, when both handsets are purchased on the telecom’s Next or Next Every Year monthly payment program. Checking out the fine print, we see that AT&T’s offering a 64GB iPhone 8’s worth of credits ($700 in total) when two iPhone 8 handsets are purchased on the same account. There’s one other caveat: this deal also requires that a new line be set up with AT&T. If you don’t need that new line, know it isn’t free, and in fact will […]
